The weather report the road deserves.
Forecast Freeway is weather along routes — not a point on a map, but the road itself: 64 Interstates, 42,874 miles, 12,856 exits, each one carrying its real mile markers, its live conditions, its forecast, its history, and its climatology. The U.S. Highways — the old roads — are joining them, milepost by milepost.
The look is deliberate. The signs of the Interstate era were set in the FHWA Series; this site is set in Overpass, its libre descendant, on the official MUTCD palette — guide-sign green, Interstate blue, shield red — over map stock, not white. 1961 bones, 2026 build.
Where the numbers come from
ProvenanceForecasts
The official NWS NDFD gridded forecast, sampled hourly over 5,580 points along the network; point detail via the network's own Forecast Points API. Alerts are live NWS polygons intersected with the roads themselves — miles under warning, not counties.
Radar & history
MRMS radar tiles minutes old, and MRMS multi-sensor precipitation measured at every exit, checked nightly against URMA analyses and PRISM 30-year normals. What fell at your mile marker last night is a number here, not a guess.
Pavement
Our own road-surface model — a physics-first energy balance built from the published science, run for every mile of the network every hour, verified in public against state DOT pavement sensors on the skill page. Untreated-pavement assumption and all other limits stated there plainly.
Climatology
Thirty years of hourly ERA5 reanalysis sampled along the roads: freezing hours, freezing rain, crosswind exposure against each road's true bearing, and the weeks the sunrise sits dead ahead on an east-west run.
Geometry
Route centerlines, exits and mile markers built from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL). On an Interstate, an exit number is its milepost — that convention powers the mile-marker pages.
